American Airlines European fare sale | Print |  E-mail

Just like I mentioned in yesterday's blog post, I thought American Airlines would announce a reduction in prices due to the perceived negativity of the bankruptcy filing.  Lo and behold, look what Travelocity is offering:

American Airlines' Europe Airfare Sale starting at $468+ Round-Trip with Travelocity! Ends 12/8.

The above is not valid for a blackout during the week of Christmas, but it is good for travel through April 1, 2012.

We will probably see other airlines follow suit as that industry is very much a copy-cat industry.  I have not seen Alitalia, Italy's flagship carrier, announce any specials as of yet, but I bet they will this weekend.  Check back on this site to see if they do.

The global economy is not looking good and having a sale can be a good strategy that can be adopted by big airline companies like AA.

AA is now added to the list of another American airline on bankruptcy roll but i am sure they can make this thing turn around. .

Hi Calvin,

Thanks for responding, I agree. The ones that really get screwed are the pilots because they usually have to scale-back their pension plan. I know they make good money, but they have erratic hours, a stressful job, etc. And it doesn't seem right to me that a bankruptcy judge is going to say I know you were expecting X in retirement, but now it will be 30% of X. Sorry.

Larry

This is good news to all travelers looking for more value for their hard-earned money. Well, this can be considered as a good news coming after a bad news for American Airlines.

I am just a little sad that another big corporation in the travel industry is having a very hard financial situation.

Hope they can be able to surpass this big challenge...:D :D
