April 25 is a very important day in Venice, Italy.  It is Liberation Day, a national holiday in Italy, celebrating the country's liberation from World War II. It is also La Festa di San Marco, the celebration of Venice's patron saint. There is a procession to the Basilica and a festivities in St. Mark's square (Piazza di San Marco)

On this day, it is also La Festa del Bòcolo, or rosebud festival.  The tradition is for men to give the women in their lives roses (a bocolo), similar to St. Valentine's Day.  Lovers, wives, mistresses, mothers and daughters all receive beautiful flowers. If you were to propose marriage, this would be a great day to do it!
