Situated a little southeast of the Cinque Terre (Italian Riviera) lies Portovenere, which sits on a rocky peninsula on the Gulf of Poets.  The beauty of the area inspired many great poets, writers, etc.

Every year since the 1200's, Portovenere celebrates the miracle of the White Madonna, which includes a spectacular torchlight procession through town.
