Venice Marathon
23rd October 2011

The Venice marathon - started in 1986

One of the most important events in the city of Venice. A major sports event that attracts over 7,000 runners from all over the world every year. The crowds along the route are enthusiastic and vocal and everyone seems to enjoy the event, runners and spectators alike.

The course is flat and is mostly downhill and features 14 little bridges over Venice’s canals. Start: from Stra and runs along the River Brenta, passing in front of the magnificent Palladian Villas of the area. Most of the race is actually in the Italian countryside.

The runners arrive in Venice via the Liberty Bridge, which links the mainland to the city. After crossing a floating bridge 400 feet long over the Grand Canal which leads to St. Mark's Square, runners reach the Riva dei Sette Martiri in the picturesque waterfront of Venice across the finish-line.
