St. Valentine's Day in Italy

Even though Pope Gelasius I declared February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day (Giorno di San Valentino) in the year 496 AD, it is not until recent times that Italian began celebrating St. Valentine's Day in Italy.  And it is not as widely celebrated in Italy as it is in the United States or Canada.  However, they do celebrate it in much the same manner as we do here:  it is a day that flowers are exchanged, chocolate is bought, jewelry exchanged, etc.

Italy offers many romantic destinations, if you do find yourself there for Valentine's Day with your significant other.  Romantic holidays in Italy can include Venice, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast, Rome, etc.
