Slow Food movement
Ever since McDonald's first opened a restaurant on the Spanish Steps in Rome, the "slow food movement" began in Italy in 1986.
It is a movement that wants to preserve the regional and old traditional cooking values of Italy while discouraging big food businesses from commercializing the cooking process.
Ever since 1996, Turin has hosted the Salone del Gusto, a slow food movement exposition that brings together close to 1,000 food producers from just about every country on this planet (150 of them).
It is hosted in Turin every 2 years and this year will be open to the public for the very first time.
You can discover all the foods of Italy and its regions along with all the other countries of the world.
There will be 150 events, tastings, 300 workshops, 50 conferences, dinners etc. taking place during a four day extravaganza of food!
This year's theme is Terra Madre - Foods that changed the world
If you find yourself in Turin during that time, you should make it a point to visit this fantastic event.
